America’s Godly Heritage Explored in new DVD by Tim Throckmorton
In May of 1981 Tim Throckmorton graduated from the Electronics program at Southern Ohio’s Scioto County Joint Vocational School . By June of 1981, only one month later, he began to feel slighted because he found that a good portion of what he’d dedicated himself to learn the prior two years had become obsolete. Overnight, it seemed, vaccume tubes were deemed old technology and were on the fast track to extinction. Throckmorton would have to learn new technology from the ground up. As he fretted over the waste of time his education had been, Throckmorton wondered, “Why didn’t someone tell me this before now?”
That same question swept over Throckmorton again a few years ago when as a pastor he began exploring the wonderful Godly heritage we have as a nation. This time he asked:
” Why didn’t I learn that, Locke’s Two Treatises of Government were heavily relied upon by the American Founding Fathers. In fact, signer of the Declaration Richard Henry Lee declared that the Declaration itself was “copied from Locke’s Treatise on Government.” Yet so heavily did Locke draw from the Bible in developing his political theories that in his first treatise on government, he invoked the Bible in one thousand three hundred and forty nine references; in his second treatise, he cited it one hundred and fifty seven times. Why didn’t I learn that John Adams himself declared that the Rev. Dr. Jonathan Mayhew and the Rev. Dr. Samuel Cooper were two of the individuals “most conspicuous, the most ardent, and influential” in the “awakening and revival of American principles and feelings” that led to American independence. I had heard nothing of the Barbary wars, The Muhlenberg brothers, church services in the Capitol or for that matter why no one is teaching others of our great history today!”
As a Pastor who is blessed to serve in the work of God’s kingdom right here in the good old U.S.A. where we enjoy more religious freedom than anywhere else on the globe today, Throckmorton says he feels it is part of his calling to not only preach the Word of God but as Israel was commanded by God, explain to our churches, our communities and our loved ones just why we are a blessed nation.
